Elevated fire danger for the weekend

We are once again under a Red Flag Warning, which will be in effect Saturday for most and into Sunday for the Idaho Panhandle. A Red Flag Warning means conditions are favorable for rapid wildfire growth due to critical fire weather. We're expecting above-average temperatures in the 90s and even low 100s, extremely low relative humidity that could drop into the single digits, and gusty winds.

A ridge of high pressure will drive daytime highs up to the mid-90s Thursday and Friday. Hotter areas, including the LC Valley, will top out around 100. Other than the heat, it will be quiet as we wrap up the work week with some lingering haze from fires in Central Washington, Southern British Columbia, and Northern Oregon. Air quality impacts are expected to be minimal, but could affect people who are sensitive to the smoke.

Smoke and haze from surrounding wildfires will continue to bring compromised air quality through the weekend, with air quality alerts in place until further notice. Winds pick back up again by Saturday afternoon, with wind gust expected to approach 20-25 mph and daytime highs will hover in the low 90s for the weekend before climbing into the mid to upper 90s and triple digits by next week.
