Thunderstorms developed in the south-central and southwestern regions of Montana this afternoon. This system of scattered storms phases east this evening. Flood Watches remain in place for some of Gallatin, Meagher, and Broadwater Counties, as well as the Cody, Wyoming area.

Bozeman, Mont. — Montana State University researchers who are part of the universities space science and engineering lab (SSEL) say technology developed in Bozeman is now aboard the International Space Station as part of an eight-month mission involving scientists from the United States and Russia. The international crew was focused on station maintenance, crew replacement, and scientific research while in orbit 250 miles above Earth.

HELENA, Mont. — Testimony in former Montana Senate President Jason Ellsworth’s trial continued in Helena as the case moved through its third day. Angela Carter, the financial director for Legislative Services, returned to the witness stand after continuing testimony from Wednesday. She described correspondence involving a state contract that prosecutors said Ellsworth illegally awarded to a longtime associate. A key part of her testimony centered on how the paperwork reached her.

MISSOULA — Four Children's Advocacy Centers in Montana are receiving nearly $150,000 in grant funds to support child survivors of crime and abuse, money that will go toward technology upgrades, facility improvements and professional training. According to Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen in a press release, the grant money came from a Johnson & Johnson settlement over allegations the company made, marketed and knowingly sold baby powder tainted with carcinogenic asbestos.

FORT PECK, Mont, State — Fort Peck Tribal Law Enforcement are asking for the public’s help in the search for a man wanted by the U.S. Marshal Office. Channing Eder did not return to jail following a release from federal custody on May 22, 2026 but had returned to the Fort Peck Indian Reservation, Fort Peck Tribal Law Enforcement said in a release. Investigators said Eder was first indicted in U.S. District Court on federal charges tied to incidents on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation.

BUTTE, Mont. — Butte's sports community is one week away from honoring its newest Hall of Fame class. Next Friday, July 24, the latest members of the Butte Sports Hall of Fame will be officially enshrined. They will receive plaques and the hall's signature green jackets. The 2026 class will join a long list of past inductees tied to Butte sports history. That group includes stuntman Evel Knievel, football coaches Sonny Holland and Bob Green, and many others.

HELENA, MT- 17 lawmakers in Montana are calling on Seth Bodnar (I) and Alani Bankhead (D) to sit down and figure out a plan to prevent split ticketing. In short—that would call for one person to drop out. Bodnar responded with that he was interested in having a conversation Bankhead. A spokesperson for Bankhead said there’s no scenario where Bankhead drops out, that echoes previous remarks she made in a press conference weeks back and in a sit down with NonStop Local.

MISSOULA, MT — Chuck Bartlebaugh says some grizzly bear populations have recovered enough that hunting or relocation could be considered as the federal government looks at changing how it manages grizzlies. Bartlebaugh has spent almost 50 years photographing bears and teaching people about them. He says he hopes local groups all have a voice in whatever happens next.
