Club Statement: Darlaston match abandoned
Following an alleged inappropriate comment from a member of the crowd towards a Darlaston player and following a prolonged stoppage, whereby a member of the crowd was ejected from the stadium, the Darlaston players collectively felt they were unable to continue the game the game which Nantwich were leading 3-1. Whilst this is bitterly disappointing for all concerned, the club has zero tolerance towards any inappropriate behaviour and comments and fully supports and respects Darlaston’s decision.

Fragments of TikTok’s fall
While drinking $2.50 High Lifes at Jack’s in Nashville Saturday night, I received a text from Teagan: “I DIDN’T EVEN GET TO SAY GOODBYE!” She was damn near crying while waiting for her stuffed cheesy bread at University of Delaware’s Deer Park bar over the loss of our generation’s trusty baedeker, the colossal black hole of our time, TikTok. “HAHAHA,” I replied. “(Evil laugh.)” But TikTok fiends need not fret much.
Election night 2024 at Notre Dame: a minute-by-minute account
6:30 p.m. — Jordan Hall: The College Democrats gathered in formal attire for a watch party, as students awaited the election results with anticipation. The event featured MSNBC’s live broadcast on two large screens, providing a central space for around 35 students to follow the unfolding results. 7:00 p.m. — DeBartolo Hall: The College Republicans set up for their watch party at 7 p.m. in the main auditorium of Debartolo Hall. CNN’s election coverage played on the three large projector screens.
‘Good morning’ Huddle Mart manager retires
Lead Huddle Mart manager Tyrone Diment will be hanging up his jester’s hat when he goes home after his Halloween night shift, a fitting costume for his last day of an 11-year tenure working at Notre Dame. When dealing with students, Diment is always smiling. His signature jest is telling students “good morning” after midnight. He also says “see you tomorrow” to students as they leave LaFortune Student Center for the night, whether or not they’re everyday customers.
Impeachment proceedings canned in packed senate meeting
In a tense Wednesday meeting, the student body senate voted on a bill of impeachment regarding Knott Hall senator John Knott and an order to increase the student activity fee from $95 to $140. Both measures failed. The meeting, held in a classroom on the first floor of the Mendoza College of Business, was stuffed with students. One could be forgiven for thinking all of Knott Hall attended Wednesday’s meeting in support of their hall senator.
Notre Dame Avenue reopening encourages cyclists, pedestrians
Though the Notre Dame class of 2028 once again broke the mold of admissions selectivity, the road to the dome actually just got a little easier — that is, if you are a pedestrian or cyclist. Notre Dame Avenue reopened to traffic at the end of Sept. after construction, slightly delayed from its original plan to be open by the Notre Dame football team’s first home game.
Pizza bagels divide Alumni, inciting rebellion
This past Sunday, Alumni Hall opened its iconic restaurant Dawg Pizza for the first time this academic year. They are known for serving Michelin star pizza bagels, a culinary craft worthy of a million laurels and high praises! The rollout was stunted, however, by an ongoing revolution caused by higher prices. Dawg Pizza manager and Alumni Hall senior Thaddeus Lipinski announced the service’s new partnership with a student startup called CARI. This is an online card processing company.
This ring wasn’t supposed to be mine
Turning down Notre Dame (albeit via the Gateway experience) was not an option because of my grandfather, who we call Papa Pete. Though he wasn’t alive when I received that letter from admissions, I felt his force making my decision for me. Uncle Rob deserves the credit of getting my lazy self to apply, Notre Dame being my third and final college application. But, it is because of my eldest cousin Peter that I’ve always had a feeling that Notre Dame was where I would end up.
Inside the dining hall gameday experience
Following Notre Dame’s Saturday mid-afternoon football game against Miami (Ohio), the dining halls across campus can expect a swarm of students and fans. According to director of campus dining Luigi Alberganti, brunch options on football Saturdays are offered on only one side of South Dining Hall in order to prepare for the post-game rush. The size of the incoming crowd is partially dependent on how the Fighting Irish play. “If it’s a tight game, everybody comes at the same time.
Putting the "Unc" in "dysfunctional"
Since acquiring ‘unc’ status after soberly stuffing my car with Alumni Hall juniors on the way to ‘Legacy’ Friday night, I have found I have a lot to say. Firstly, how wrong was the editor-in-chief? “The weather seems a lot more agreeable this year than my own move-in in prehistoric times,” Isa Sheikh said in an otherwise beautiful note in The Observer’s welcome weekend edition. You’re smart, Isa, but I DON’T KNOW ABOUT THAT ONE, CHIEF.

Appreciating the weird
Sometimes, I think we don’t notice enough of the world around us. We have the ability to take photos using our phones, but then we often don’t even look back on them. But that’s what our writers do best in the Viewpoint section of The Observer — we make “the stone feel stony,” as the Russian literary critic Viktor Shklovsky would say. It is why I feel blessed to now lead the department as viewpoint editor. And it is why I feel blessed to be given the opportunity to write for it, too.
Getting over Mary Jane
It has been 27 days since I told Mary Jane I was done with her, and it has been a grueling month. Change is hard. Healing is hard. But that is why it’s so rewarding. Some people can handle a girl like Mary Jane in their lives and be just fine (and some people like to excuse Mary Jane by saying that her friend Lexi Hall is worse), but the humbling lesson I have had to learn is that I can’t. Time has shown me that I simply liked her too much. I was obsessed with her.
Campus lakes, once polluted from production, now a place of recreation
Warm weather attracted hoards of students to Notre Dame’s two campus lakes this week. As temperatures climbed into the 70s Tuesday, many students took time off studying to enjoy the lakes’ environment, with scores of runners circling the lakes and other students simply relaxing at the newly constructed Our Lady of the Lake World Peace Plaza.
Dabbers sign former Crewe goalkeeper Ben Garratt
The 29-year-old is best known for his many years spent at Crewe Alex, where he came through the academy and went on to make 246 appearances for the first team after being given his break by former Dabbers manager Steve Davis. The former England under-19 international also made nearly 100 appearances for Burton Albion before leaving at the end of last season.
Senate votes to nominate two senior class council members Wednesday
The Notre Dame student senate met in a Mendoza College of Business classroom Wednesday and approved the appointment of two nominees to the senior class council, who will serve for the remainder of the 2023-2024 term. Student body vice president Aidan Rezner, who presided over the meeting, began the gathering with a prayer. During the meeting’s roll call, Student Union secretary Isabella Tardio asked the senate to share their favorite on-campus meal.
With no mandate for the flu shot, spring semester cases rise on campus
For junior Thad Lipinski, it began with the sensation of feeling very overheated on a Sunday night in January, a night which he kept waking up with “weird dreams and sweats.” “I woke up the next morning sick as a dog, I had a fever, I was coughing pretty bad, and I was like, I don’t think I’m going to go to class today,” Lipinski said. “I hoped Tuesday I would feel a little better, but it was the same deal.” Lipinski went to urgent care that Wednesday and tested positive for the flu.
Notre Dame facility home to nesting pair of eagles as conservation struggles continue
A 10-minute drive from campus, the Notre Dame Linked Experimental Ecosystem Facility (ND-LEEF) is a researcher’s playground. Considered “globally unique,” the facility consists of 32 acres containing a reservoir with four separate artificial watershed systems, flowing ground-pumped and aerated water from the facility’s reservoir into artificial stream, pond and wetland ecosystems.
Using love to cope with an unfortunate loss of a bike
TL;DR: If you see a blue specialized mountain bike in a tree, please email the location to lprice3@nd.edu. Next time, I won’t buy the cheapest bike lock I can find at CVS. I was cocky. Last year, I wrote a news story for the Observer about the amount of scooters which had been stolen on campus. As a faithful cyclist, I didn’t take my own story too seriously. Surely, it wouldn’t happen to me. Coming back to campus after my time abroad, I felt fast.
Generative AI-related Honor Code violations rise as Notre Dame students learn new uses
Built by the artificial intelligence (AI) company Open AI, ChatGPT rocked the world when it became available in the late Fall 2022, offering chatbot technology with a capability the public had never seen before. In a singular, free program, ChatGPT could tell jokes about rabbits, write love poems for a significant other and compose proper university mission statements.
I have a lot to say about dogs
I came home from school this December to a house full of animals. There were: three dogs, two cats, two brothers and two parents for me to deal with, so, naturally, I spent a lot of time with the animals, and, naturally, I have a lot to say about them. One thing I notice about dogs is their intense anxiety. Little moments catch my eye: a. My girlfriend’s dog Pepper barks at me because I’m six feet tall, an alien in her world of kind, comfortable leagues under the height of 5’8”.
'Transformative' donation to expand access to mental health care // The Observer Original
A gift of an anonymous but “transformative” amount from multiple Veldman family foundations is set to significantly increase access to mental health care for the South Bend area. The benefactor foundations include those of Sharon and Matt Edmonds, Connie and Mike Joines and Anita and Tom Veldman. Their gift, according to a Notre Dame news release, will be used to establish the Wilma and Peter Veldman Family Psychology Clinic, honoring the benefactors’ parents.
Match Report: Nantwich Town 10(TEN)-1 Runcorn Town
Written by Liam Price, photos by Jonathan White The visitors from 2 divisions lower had injury issues which meant a relatively inexperienced side was put out. Just 3 minutes in, Kai Evans was felled in the penalty area and Sean Cooke stepped up to slam it in down the middle. AJ Leitch-Smith, making his first start since returning from injury, kept the ball alive from a corner but no one was alive to finish the chance. In 15 minutes, the Dabbers doubled the lead.
Tears of ink: Notebooks from abroad
I’m writing in my third notebook of this semester, which I’ve spent abroad at Notre Dame’s London program. For the life of me, I can’t write anything of use, whether it be for my website or The Observer, but writing pointlessly in my notebook is pretty easy for me. Three notebooks take up a lot of space, and most of this space is just meandering writings about my day. I also allow myself to indulge in brevity, like this entire page entry I wrote Sept. 25: “I write so much s**t.
