Who did you admire when you were starting out? I loved Lee Evans because of how he ran around on stage. I want to be more like him but I just physically can't. I try to sometimes; I'll move my arms. Now I understand why he was so sweaty! Best heckl e? I was doing a gig and this woman was quite drunk and talking really loudly. I said, “Hello, what's going on here?” And she went, “Don't worry about me, love. You're losing them as it is.” And I was like, OK. Well, that's brilliant.

How did you go from a career in palliative care to standup comedy? I had a bit of a midlife crisis. I was being with people while they were dying, and I kind of lost all sensitivity for it. That's when I realised that I'd come to the end of that career. I always wanted to do something creative, but wasn't really sure how. I tried writing a book, then standup – and realised that's what I wanted to do.
