Manawatū has scooped Napier City Council in the grand finals of a competition to find New Zealand's best tap water. Councillor Keith Price, chair of Napier City Council's Delivery and Regulatory Committee, said they were "stoked to be named one of the best-tasting tap water suppliers in New Zealand". "Napier has a real natural advantage with the Heretaunga Plains aquifer, which provides a premium source of water," Price said.

By Linda Hall of LDR A Hawke's Bay mayor has called the region's response to Cyclone Vaianu "woke" and said "there was a lot of panicking going on" over not too much. Hawke's Bay Regional Council, Napier, Hastings, and Central Hawke's Bay councils declared a local State of Emergency for coastal areas on Saturday at 11.56am. Wairoa mayor Craig Little said on Monday he was asked to join them but refused. "We didn't need a state of emergency.

Insurer flags ‘sea surge’ risk for some Napier Parklands estate properties Original

One of the country's leading insurers is refusing to insure some homes in a modern Napier City Council-owned residential development because of what it perceives to be a "high risk of flooding from sea surge". Parklands Residential Estate, near Park Island sportsground, is being built in stages on a 120 hectare site formerly known as the Lagoon Farm.
