What was your first job as a journalist?
The first article I got published was in the Brooklyn Rail and it was about the need to modernize opera.

What does it mean to be a journalist?
To tell both sides of a story and showcase humans as humans.

I have no idea, I don't pay attention to those.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?
open office, trint for transcribing, my phone to record and take pictures, a small clip on light for the phone so I can take better food pic.

Why did you become a journalist?
I wanted to be a writer and it seemed more lucrative (hahah). I also love hearing people's stories and sharing them.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Nope
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
That's hard because there's so many. Recently I loved coining the Denver Bagel. I also like to dig into sustainable practices.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Listen, ask questions, talk to everyone, stick to your deadlines.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Early in the day, around 8 or 9 a.m.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
Natural Grocers sends the best pitches, even if I don't much with grocery stores.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
Oh geez, so many. I hate when people pitch "women's" things like women's wine, or woman's steakhouse.
What's your favorite drink?
Water, followed by black coffee and a solid Negroni.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
In my greenhouse, garden, or with my kids.

National Geographic
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That it's easy and all I do is eat.
