Before creating resources of hope TOPIA Magazine and Atlas of the Future, I spent the noughties writing music shows for MTV, VH1, BBC and VICE, later reporting on the heavier subject of elephant welfare for National Geographic. I have contributed to Time Out, Mr and Mrs Smith, Dazed & Confused, HERO Magazine and various in-flight mags. I have a rare invisible disability called a cavernoma. It is shaped like a raspberry.

My life is a fever dream of ricocheting clusterfucks. Memories come in fits and, sometimes, literal spurts. This week’s batshit flashback comes courtesy of a deranged déjà vu on an operating table. Just before Halloween, I found myself starring in a body horror in Barcelona. Locked in eye contact with a sadist as she sliced me open, I was jolted back to Argentina – and that time I had surgery under a false name. Technically, this is a story about identity theft.

Now I watch my mouth before darting across roads – you never know what horrific words might be your last. Of course, anyone could drop dead at any point. But imagine knowing you had high odds of a stroke at any moment, without warning – meaning you’d never walk, talk, or even breathe again. How would you live?
