Extreme Heat Warning in effect for the James River Valley from 1 PM Saturday to 1 AM Tuesday. There is also an Extreme Heat Watch in effect for northeast ND, the Red River Valley, and parts of NW MN from 8 AM Sunday to 1 AM Tuesday. Heat indices between 95 to 110 are possible each day. Heat related illnesses are likely during extreme heat events. Drink plenty of water, stay out of the sun, and stay in an air-conditioned room.

THURSDAY - FRIDAY: Thursday will bring back the summertime warmth with highs in the seasonable 80s during the afternoon hours. We’re also looking at a mostly sunny afternoon. Between Thursday afternoon and overnight, expect a few isolated thundershowers and thunderstorms into eastern ND. There is a Level 2 risk for many areas of eastern North Dakota. Isolated severe thunderstorms will be capable of winds up to 60 mph and hail exceeding quarter-size across a swath of NE ND.

FIRST ALERT THURSDAY: We have raised a First Alert Weather Day for Thursday due to the risk of severe thunderstorms. There is a Level 3 risk for scattered severe storms in the far southern valley into parts of the James River Valley into west central MN. Lakes Country, the FM area, and up towards Devils Lake is under a Level 2 risk for isolated severe potential. Golf ball sized hail and damaging gusts to 75 mph are the primary hazards with any severe storms.
