The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) voted 4-0 on July 14 to exempt a long list of low-risk home improvement projects—from small storage sheds to kitchen remodels (without new wiring)—from requiring a county permit. Tuesday’s vote came before a board that now consists of four members. Commissioner Brian Hawkins, who represented District 2, resigned in June to run for the Florida House seat being vacated by Rep. Jeff Holcomb. His seat remains vacant.

House Bill (HB) 399 removes a local government’s ability to restrict the placement of modular and manufactured homes in site-built communities. As a result, the County must revise comprehensive plans and land development regulations to be fully compliant by January 2027. Off-site-constructed homes are either modular or manufactured.
