I 100% support Coach Kai Nielsen, who was recently suspended as the Park City High School head volleyball coach pending investigation over an alleged comment. His varsity team is currently on track to win the state championship. I argue that the girls would not be in this position if not for his superb leadership and coaching. I hope that parents and student-athletes realize this fact, and stand up in his defense as I will here.

Bethel Road Methodist Church's prayer box serves as outreach to the community

A local church has found a simple yet profound symbol of hope, connection and outreach to the community through its pink prayer box. Bethel Road Methodist Church, located at 1328 Bethel Road, installed the prayer box just before the onset of the COVID pandemic as a means to offer its support to the pubic through prayer. The Rev. Pat Looper said the idea came about from a church member's suggestion.

Store manager for Morganton's rue21 location says closure came without warning

A national retailer with 543 stores nationwide, including one in Morganton, announced it would shutter its doors last week, sending nearly 5,000 employees to the unemployment lines with no forewarning. Rue21, based out of Pennsylvania, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last week, according to court filings, a move that has left employees with nowhere to turn.
