Round TFT LCDs: What They Are and Why Designers Are Choosing Them
For decades, the screen has been a rectangle. From our first televisions to our modern smartphones, this shape has been the unchallenged standard. But as technology and design evolve, so do our expectations for form and function. Enter the Round TFT LCD—a display that is breaking the mold, quite literally, and enabling a new wave of innovative product design.
Doane Concert Band welcomes guest conductor
On Saturday, April 5, the Doane Band had their second annual invitational with guest artist Rossano Galante and two guest high schools, Nebraska City Band and Bellevue West High Wind Ensemble. All together, they played prepared songs from their own and Galante’s own composed pieces of art, which they shared with the audience during the concert. Galante said he felt flattered to be invited as a guest conductor for this invitational, especially since it was to conduct his own music.

Note: This story is a joke created by Owl writers to celebrate April Fools’ Day. All individuals mentioned in the story have given their consent to appear. Country music sensation Zach Bryan is coming to Doane for a special performance. The chart-topping singer-songwriter will be making a surprise appearance as part of the Stop Day festivities.
A new calling to be a pet psychic
I’ve always believed there’s more to communication than words. As a Computer Science major and writer for this newspaper, I’ve spent years parsing language, both human and machine. But a recent encounter with a turtle named Waffles changed everything. I was sitting outside the library, spiraling over a bug in my Python code, when I locked eyes with this turtle. He didn’t blink. He didn’t move. But in my mind, I heard him say: “You’re not meant to debug.
Choir hosts Vocal Festival
Last Tuesday, Feb. 25, the Doane Vocal Festival (DVF) took place at Doane University during the evening. This event is a concert that brings together high school students and college singers from Nebraska, featuring performances by the Doane Choir soloists, and choir students. It lasts the whole day, where high school students rehearse and later on perform with the Doane choir during the evening concert, while working alongside Dr. Kurt Runestad, the director of the Choir.
Panama knows how to party
By the end of last week, carnivals all around the world began officially on Thursday, Feb. 27. Carnivals are noted to be vibrant and festive events celebrated along many cultures worldwide, often featuring parades with floats, dancers, and musicians moving through the streets, creating a spectacle of color and sound. Music and dance share different genres such as samba from Brazil, calypso from Trinidad & Tobago, and soca which all play a huge role in carnival celebrations.
Doane staff member advocates for importance of Black History Month
Every February, the United States of America celebrates Black History Month by promoting black voices and U.S. history. While recognizing the often-overlooked stories of Black individuals, this is a time to reflect on the past and present struggles for racial equality and to continue inspiring progress toward justice. For instance, historian Carter G. Woodson, known as the “Father of Black History,” started what became Black History Month.
When can you find free time?
One question roaming through my mind during these past few days has been, “When is it the right time to get your alone time?” For example, alone time refers to the period when someone chooses to be by themselves without social interactions or other distractions. This time is often used to recharge, reflect or focus on personal interests or needs.
CAPE Dinner informs students
On Tuesday, Jan. 28, the Campus Advocacy, Prevention and Education (CAPE) project hosted “Cocktails with CAPE and Friends” at Perry’s Dining Center by the East/West Dining Hall, offering an environment for students interested in knowing more about what CAPE is about, and how it’s impacted by the community here in Crete and at Doane. It featured non-alcoholic drinks and cookies to create an inviting atmosphere for all those who attended and would like to join the organization.
Doane celebrates MLK Week
On Jan. 20, the United States of America paid tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., one of the most influential leaders in the American civil rights movement. This federal holiday is observed on the third Monday in January each year, also known as MLK Day.
TikTok experiences ban scare
The issue surrounding TikTok’s potential ban has been a topic of significant debate for several years, primarily related to national security concerns and data privacy issues. A reason for the potential ban has been the topic of national security concern because TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a Chinese company. U.S. officials have raised concerns that the Chinese government could access American citizens’ data, which could potentially compromise the country’s privacy and security.
eSports' Overwatch team finds growth
On the evening of Nov. 15, both Overwatch teams, Black and Orange, played their respective playoffs. Returning champions of the GPAC in February, the Doane Overwatch Black team has been ruling the conference with seven wins, and no losses; the first-year students on the Doane Orange Team have also been ruling the conference with six wins and one loss.
Greek Life offers a preview
All throughout this past and present week, Greek life has been alive decorating different rooms around campus preparing for their rush process with their new members. Their biggest event during these two weeks has been the Open House from Nov. 12 to Nov. 21, where all members from fraternities and sororities gather with students who are notoriously interested in this specific group, to share lively memories, get to know each other a bit more deeply and create new experiences together.
Celebrating Panama's freedom - Doaneline
As we get closer to the end of the year, November is a month many of us anticipate. The biggest holiday celebrated in America is Thanksgiving, which honors family time, harvest season, and feasts with all the food available to eat. However, for my hometown country, November is an important month because it represents my native land’s festivities. Across the whole month, there are several days that are among the most important throughout Panama’s history.
Awareness raised for breast cancer
Throughout October, the annual international breast cancer campaign focuses on awareness, education and research funding to support victims of this disease which has been tearing people’s lives apart. In Doane, our honorary signature is called Pink Out, and it stands for the representative color and promotion of early detection and treatment. On Saturday, Oct.

Several sports teams sponsored interactive stations during the event, giving local kids a firsthand look at a variety of disciplines.
Exploring the Joslyn Art Museum
During Fall Break, I took a small trip to the Joslyn Art Museum residing in Downtown Omaha. Locals said that it has been remodeled within the last year, just reopening last month with a budget of over a $100 million in expansion and renovation, including new features and art pieces added to the collection. Consisting of three buildings with all types of artistries, as Modern, European, Contemporary, Asian, decorated the walls of the place.
這項更新目前開放給 Google Workspace 的用戶（包括：Business Standard、Business Plus、Enterprise Essentials、Enterprise Standard、Enterprise Starter、Enterprise Plus、 Education Plus、Teaching and Learning Upgrade 和個人方案），而 Google One 用戶則還無法體驗。

Purpose-Built Lab versus Renovation: How to Decide
Labs are where scientific discoveries are made and the future of medicine is tested and developed. The exponential demand for highly functional and artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled lab spaces compounded by the post-pandemic effect across the country—either transformed from the existing blueprints or new ground-ups—will have profound impacts on our nation’s strategic life science ecosystem.

立即點此報名AWS Dev Day Taiwan 2023！
【Made By Google】Google 終於讓 Assistant 跟 Bard 整合！「Assistant with Bard」即將推出
這次 Made By Google 發表會上，Google 正式宣布推出把 Google Assistant 跟生成式 AI Bard 整合的「Assistant with Bard」。 Photo Credit：Google...
The New Logic of Work

60 North Carolina leaders discuss the future of our state
The single greatest challenge is for our elected leaders to overcome their differences, tone down their rhetoric, and put aside partisanship in order to secure a better future for all North Carolinians. For them to succeed, we too must put aside our differences, whether they are geographic, economic, social or political. We must demand that our leaders seek the common welfare in areas such as health, education, the environment, criminal justice and economic opportunity.

Key Decisions to Be Made at China’s 19th Party Congress
China’s President Xi Jinping is under the spotlight this week. On Wednesday, the 19th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party kicked off at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People. The Chinese government has tightened security and discipline for the event that takes place twice a decade. Authorities blocked the use of WhatsApp messaging app, censored the use of “19th Party Congress” on Chinese social media platform Weibo and even searched nightclubs in the capital.
