The late spring NFL minicamps are rarely exciting. They serve to introduce new players to the team culture, and remind us that another season is starting soon. Giants QB Jaxson Dart created a ton of interest in the recent Giants minicamp when he showed up at a May 22 rally for Congressman Mike Lawler at Rockland Community College. Dart introduced Jamaica Estates native President Trump at the rally.

It has been a dreary season for Mets fans, but whenever their team honors the stars of the past, the present can be forgotten for at least a few moments. This past Saturday, the Mets enshrined Bobby Valentine and Lee Mazzilli into their Hall of Fame. Although Valentine played for the Mets on their putrid late-1970s post-Tom Seaver teams, he earned the honor for being one of the best managers in Mets history.

Veteran New York Post sports columnist Mike Vaccaro undertook a herculean task in writing “Bosses of the Bronx,” as it is the definitive book on the history of the Yankees’ ownership. Let’s face it — if you are going to write a book about Yankees CEOs, there is not going to be much interest in Jacob Ruppert, Del Webb, Dan Topping or the suits at CBS who owned the team in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Despite the title, Vaccaro knows there was only one “boss” who will be remembered.
