In what has been one of the dreariest seasons in team history, the Mets brought some joy to Citi Field by honoring their 1986 World Series championship team on its 40th anniversary last Saturday. Before the on-field ceremonies, some members of that fabled team met with the media. One of the most beloved Mets in their 65-year history, Mookie Wilson, took on the role of team spokesman as he addressed the Citi Field fans during the ceremony.

Carlos Beltran became the third player inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame to have a Mets cap on his plaque this past Sunday. The previous two were Tom Seaver and Mike Piazza. Despite the paucity of players who chose to place a Mets insignia on their ultimate baseball honor, there was little fanfare in the runup to his induction in Cooperstown, NY.

The listed attendance for the National Women’s Soccer League’s Queens Cup between the Washington Spirit and Gotham FC, held last Wednesday night at Citi Field, was 42,175. It marked the largest crowd to ever witness a women’s sporting event in NYC. The previous record-holding event, garnering 28,143 attendees, was across Roosevelt Avenue: the 2023 US Open women’s tennis final between Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka.
