Two people were killed and at least 20 injured Monday night after a bus overturned on the Long Island Expressway in Blissville, leading to a five-car pileup. Police responded to a report of the crash near the parkway’s eastbound Exit 16, at Greenpoint Avenue, at around 11:45 p.m. The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad found that a 35-year-old man was driving a coach bus westbound on the LIE when it collided with a second car, which then crashed into a third.

Police are searching for a man who attempted to rob a U.S. Postal Service employee at gunpoint in Woodhaven last week, within the confines of the NYPD’s 102nd Precinct. Cops said that on June 24, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a 34-year-old female on-duty USPS employee was in front of 80-32 87 Road when an unidentified man approached her, displayed a firearm and demanded money.

Albert Itzkowitz always enjoyed his time near the lake in Kissena Park. Last Thursday, five weeks after the rabbi and retired baker was shot and killed near Kissena Lake, family members were in the park to announce a doubling of the reward for information on the crime and to encourage people who had been in the park on the afternoon of May 18 to come forward. Itzkowitz, 75, lived in Kew Gardens. He was found shot to death a short distance from the lake.

A manager of a freight forwarding company based in Jamaica was sentenced on June 24 to 18 months in prison for crafting a scheme to circumvent U.S. export laws related to Russia. Natalya Ivanovna Mazulina, aka “Natasha Mazulina,” of Federal Way, a city in Washington state, was a manager for Delex Air Cargo LLC, a freight forwarding company operating at Kennedy Airport.

Rinaldi, 47, entered the race to unseat Councilmember Lynn Schulman (D-Forest Hills) in January 2025.

Dear Editor: The City of New York owes it to Romanch Mahajan’s family — and to all its residents — to immediately shut down horse‑carriage operations and permanently ban this inhumane and extremely unsafe industry. The city has a moral obligation to act now, not years from now. Philadelphia has just banned horse‑carriage businesses, and there is no defensible reason why New York City should continue allowing them.

Community Board 6’s Land Use Committee on June 17 voted 10-3 to recommend conditional approval of a new apartment house in Forest Hills, where there is now a retail strip with a vital CVS Pharmacy. The proposed 21-story development at 100-12 Queens Blvd. — between 67th Avenue and 67th Road — would include 389 housing units, 97 of which would be income-restricted, and commercial space. It also would have 38 cellar parking spaces and spots for bikes.
