Urinary haloacetic acid concentrations and asthenozoospermia risk: a case–control study in China
Abstract Disinfection byproducts (DBPs), particularly haloacetic acids (HAAs), exhibit male reproductive toxicity. However, their associations with asthenozoospermia remain unclear. To investigate associations of urinary trichloroacetic acid (TCAA) and dichloroacetic acid (DCAA), the predominant HAAs, with asthenozoospermia risk, and further to evaluate their joint effects. An age-matched case-control study (135 asthenozoospermia cases and 270 controls) nested within the TREE cohort was conducted.
Diagnostic accuracy of Mycobacterium tuberculosis antigen-induced interferon-γ-inducible protein 10 for latent tuberculosis infection among high-risk groups: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Abstract Background: Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) affects nearly a quarter of the world’s population, yet current diagnostic tools are suboptimal. Interferon-γ-inducible protein 10 (IP-10) has been proposed as a candidate biomarker, but its diagnostic value for LTBI among high-risk groups is unclear. To address this, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the accuracy of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) antigen-induced IP-10 for detecting LTBI among high-risk groups.
Impact of LLM-supported patient education on patient perspectives and patient-reported outcomes: a mixed-methods systematic review
Abstract Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly being explored for patient education, but evidence from patient-facing clinical studies involving real patients remains limited. We conducted a mixed-methods systematic review of LLM-supported patient education in clinical settings, focusing on patterns of use, patient perspectives, and patient-reported outcomes. Searches of PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and CINAHL identified 48 eligible studies from 17 countries.

Language models for data extraction and risk of bias assessment in complementary medicine - npj Digital Medicine
Abstract Large language models (LLMs) have the potential to enhance evidence synthesis efficiency and accuracy. This study assessed LLM-only and LLM-assisted methods in data extraction and risk of bias assessment for 107 trials on complementary medicine. Moonshot-v1-128k and Claude-3.5-sonnet achieved high accuracy (≥95%), with LLM-assisted methods performing better (≥97%). LLM-assisted methods significantly reduced processing time (14.7 and 5.9 min vs. 86.9 and 10.4 min for conventional methods).
Association of long-term weight management pharmacotherapy with multiple health outcomes: an umbrella review and evidence map - International Journal of Obesity
Abstract Multiple meta-analyses (MAs) have demonstrated that six pharmacotherapies, including orlistat, liraglutide, phentermine/topiramate, naltrexone/bupropion, semaglutide, and tirzepatide, improve weight loss and weight maintenance. However, few studies have synthesized and evaluated the quality of this evidence.

Assessing the Risk of Bias in Randomized Clinical Trials With Large Language Models
Key Points Question Are large language models reliable for assessing risk of bias (ROB) in randomized clinical trials (RCTs)? Findings In this survey study with 2 large language models and 3 experts assessing 30 RCTs, a structured prompt was developed to guide the assessment of ROB, resulting in high accuracy rates for both large language models (>84.5%), compared with human reviewers, across 10 specific domains.
Frontiers | Effect and possible mechanisms of saponins in Chinese herbal medicine exerts for the treatment of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in experimental animal: a systematic review and meta-analysis
1. Introduction Timely percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remains by far the most effective treatment for the salvage of acute myocardial infarction (1). However, subsequent ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury can still lead to massive loss of cardiomyocytes, thereby exacerbating cardiac dysfunction (2). Now, MIRI has become a vital issue in clinical practice, attracting extensive attention from researchers.

Exercise training modalities in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: a systematic review and network meta-analysis
In our study, we used both direct and indirect evidence to evaluate the relative effects of different exercises on glycemic control, cardiovascular risk factors, and weight loss in patients with T2DM. In particular, we separated the differences between supervised and unsupervised forms of exercise. Integrating the currently available data, our network meta-analysis indicated that combined exercise was as effective in reducing HbA1c as supervised aerobic and supervised resistance forms of exercise.
Patent foramen ovale closure, antiplatelet therapy or anticoagulation in patients with patent foramen ovale and cryptogenic stroke: a systematic review and network meta-analysis incorporating complementary external evidence
Due to this, three studies could not be used in the primary analysis. Within the medical therapy arm, the decision to use antiplatelet or anticoagulation was left to the discretion of the physician and patient. Summarised the highest quality available evidence by addressing three management alternatives of patent foramen ovale closure plus antiplatelet therapy, anticoagulation alone and antiplatelet therapy alone.
How is AMSTAR applied by authors - a call for better reporting
Overall, there is a vast difference of when AMSTAR is applied by authors to assess the methodological quality of reviews. Most striking is the finding that limitations of AMSTAR are often not mentioned by the authors. Although AMSTAR has been designed and validated for SRs of RCTs for evaluating treatment interventions, more than half of our included studies also applied AMSTAR to SRs of nonrandomized studies.
Proton pump inhibitors for gastrointestinal bleeding prophylaxis in critically ill patients: A systematic review protocol
1 INTRODUCTION Patients who are critically ill, typically cared for in the intensive care unit (ICU), are at risk of stress ulceration in the upper gastrointestinal tract, which may cause bleeding.1 Clinicians have long been concerned about the risk of clinically important upper gastrointestinal bleeding (CIB), which may be associated with additional diagnostic tests, blood transfusions, the use of vasoactive agents, increased length of ICU stay, and an increased risk of death.2 Clinical...
