A type of optimum online learning from quantile estimating equation and objective function
{The significance and novelty of this work are established through methodological development, theoretical analysis, and numerical experiments for quantile regression in streaming data.} Estimating equation and objective function are perhaps the most common tools in classical statistics and machine learning. The optimum frameworks are frequently used for optimizing the statistical inference and learning. Up to now, however, the optimum forms of the online updating have not been well explored.
Wildfire exposure and political participation in Africa
Abstract Civic engagement can shape collective responses to climate change. However, evidence on how climate-related disasters affect political participation in Africa remains limited.

Identification and validation of a purine metabolism-associated four-gene host signature for pediatric bacterial infection
Abstract Host metabolic reprogramming is a hallmark of infection, yet its link to immune dysregulation in pediatric bacterial infection remains unclear. Using a pediatric Staphylococcus aureus infection cohort (GSE30119) and two independent validation datasets (GSE40396 and GSE25504), purine metabolism was identified as a consistently suppressed pathway associated with immune responses.

Neural basis of compositional control
|
Abstract Naturalistic goal-directed behaviour often involves continuous actions directed at dynamically changing goals1,2,3. Just as microeconomics serves as a rigorous foundation for discrete choices, control theory can serve as a foundation for understanding choice in continuous ones3,4. In continuous contexts, behaviour is composed of blends of goals, and the closest analogue to choice is a strategic reweighting of goal-specific control policies5,6.

Pain and depression mediate the relationship between multimorbidity and frailty in older adults with diabetes
Abstract Frailty is increasingly recognized as a significant risk factor for death and disability in older adults with diabetes. Although previous studies have confirmed the correlation between the number of comorbid chronic conditions and frailty in older adults with diabetes, the mechanism underlying this effect remains unclear. Pain and depression are common symptoms accompanying diabetes.
Deviatoric stress evolution and time step control technology of retreat roadway surrounding rock in fully mechanized working face
Abstract The distribution characteristics of the deviatoric stress tensor (DST) field in the surrounding rock of the end-mining retreat roadway (ERR) are intricate, exerting a substantial influence on the stability of the ERR’s surrounding rock. Taking the fully mechanized working face and its retreat roadway in Wutong Coal Mine as the engineering backdrop, initially, a numerical model of the DST in the end-mining coal pillar (ECP) was established to analyze its evolutionary pattern.

This study investigates the failure mechanisms and proposes a control strategy using an integrated methodology of laboratory testing, theoretical analysis, and field validation.
Climate research is global - risks and responsibilities should also be distributed
CORRESPONDENCE 03 March 2026 Plans by the administration of US President Donald Trump to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) are progressing rapidly (see Nature https://doi.org/qsk2; 2025). The US National Science Foundation has sought proposals for privatizing NCAR’s Mesa Laboratory in Boulder, Colorado, and announced the transfer of its supercomputing centre in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to an as-yet-unnamed third party.
Micro-nanoplastics and Parkinson’s disease: evidence and perspectives
Abstract With the intensification of global plastic pollution, the potential threats posed by micro- and nanoplastics (MPs/NPs) to human health have become a major concern. MPs/NPs enter the organism through ingestion, inhalation, and skin contact, subsequently accumulating in multiple organs—particularly the brain. Increasing experimental and epidemiological evidence implicates MPs/NPs in the development of Parkinson’s disease (PD).
Pentafluoroethyl Sulfoximine Reagent for the Photocatalytic Pentafluoroethylation-Difunctionalization of Styrene Derivatives | Organic Letters
Perfluoroalkylation of alkenes is a direct and efficient way to introduce fluorine-containing groups into organic molecules due to the fact that alkenes are abundant and inexpensive feedstocks. (1) Trifluoromethylation of alkenes with concomitant functionalization (i.e., difunctionalization) has been achieved with broad scope. (2) By contrast, the difunctionalization of alkenes involving pentafluoroethylation is very limited.

Asymmetric Cingulum Bundle Connectivity Is Modulated by Paracingulate Sulcus Morphology
Intracranial single-pulse electrical stimulation directed to the cingulum bundle elicits widespread pulse-evoked potentials. Cingulum bundle electrographic connectivity exhibits hemispheric asymmetry. Paracingulate sulcus morphology is associated with pulse-evoked potential magnitude. 1 Introduction The cingulum bundle (CB) is a prominent association fiber tract spanning frontal, parietal, and temporal lobes.

Water-soluble method for preparing microfiber composite with high water vapor permeability: an environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative to genuine leather
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have intensified pressure on the leather industry to adopt eco-friendly practices amid environmental concerns, ethical consumption trends, and rising demand for alternatives. This study develops a synthetic leather via a water-saving process: hydrophilic groups are incorporated into modified polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), stabilized by physical fiber-pore alignment, followed by high-solid waterborne polyurethane (WPU) impregnation.

Non-conjugated linkage enabling a quinone-based cathode material with long cycle life and high energy density for aqueous zinc batteries† Small-molecule quinones are promising cathode materials for aqueous zinc batteries with high theoretical capacity and desirable voltage. However, they usually exhibit high solubility in aqueous electrolytes, resulting in the loss of active material and a short cycle life.

"Actigraphic Correlates of Neuropsychiatric Symptoms in Adults With Foc" by Mark A Abboud, Jessica L Kamen et al.
Disability in patients with epilepsy (PWEs) is multifactorial: beyond seizure frequency/severity, PWEs are prone to a range of neuropsychiatric, cognitive, and somatic comorbidities that significantly affect quality of life. Here, we explored how variations in seizure severity and the burden of self-reported somatic/neuropsychiatric symptoms correlate with disruptions to 24 h activity patterns (rest-activity rhythms [RARs]), determined through wrist accelerometry/actigraphy.

A cyano cobalt “electron transfer bridge” boosting the two-electron reaction of a MnO2 cathode with long lifespan in aqueous zinc batteries
A cyano cobalt “electron transfer bridge” boosting the two-electron reaction of a MnO2 cathode with long lifespan in aqueous zinc batteries† The dissolution/deposition reaction of MnO2 cathode materials in aqueous zinc batteries provides two-electron transfers and delivers high theoretical capacity. However, this process usually requires an acidic environment and pre-added Mn2+ salts in electrolytes.
