@emilesnyder @cblack__ @davidgraeber Yup, "Utopia of Rules" is another very insightful book about society; looking forward to reading @davidgraeber 's new one about jobs. Some of these topics were also explored from another perspective in the very interesting "Going Postal" by @MarkAmesExiled
If people do things they dislike so they can raise children, to walk in their footsteps and also live their lives doing things they dislike, where is the payoff, asks Alan Watts? "It's all retch and no vomit." 
A predictable future (one that you can control) is already the past: 
A long life vs. fulfilling life. Alan Watts asks: Do you want to spend your time doing things you don't like, just so you can earn enough money to continue living and doing more of the things you don't like?
