Anti-trans laws will hurt us all | Opinion
It’s easy to forget that Title IX is quite new. Not only were my grandmothers born before its enactment, so was my mom. I am the first woman in my family who has always had the right to play sports in school, and not only did I do that, but I succeeded at every level. I went from youth learn-to-ski practices, to becoming a Junior National All-American, to racing at NCAA Championships, to competing internationally for Team USA.
Opinion: It’s time for Mainers to speak up on clean energy Original
With the change in the presidential administration, some people are eagerly awaiting new leadership and others are terrified for the future. There is still another group that is trying to avoid paying attention to Washington at all. However, when I’m at the grocery store or spending time with friends and family these days, one topic never fails to come up: the weather. If you’ve lived in Maine for a while, it is clear that this winter has not been normal.
Opinion: Maine must overcome clean energy opposition, gridlock
Maine’s environmental movement is steeped in a rich history of activism and resilience, dating back centuries before European settlers arrived. The Wabanaki people have long served as stewards of their homelands, honoring a deep connection to the lands and waterways that sustained their communities for generations.

Commentary: I still believe public utilities are the future
We learn a lot as kids. What I learned was that my future was not secure. I watched my brother bag groceries during the Great Recession. And just when things started to get better, landslides came down our mountains in freak storms. Before I even had the words, I knew that facing the interlocking climate and economic crises would be my life’s purpose. That is why I worked day and night for the “Yes on 3” campaign for Pine Tree Power.
Commentary: In debate over Pine Tree Power, utilities should speak for themselves
Lately, as we have been out knocking doors in support of Pine Tree Power, presenting everywhere from local fish and game clubs to student groups, and talking at forums across the state, one question has been on our minds: “Where are CMP and Versant?” We’ve talked to thousands of Mainers who can’t trust our investor-owned utilities to keep the lights on. That’s a huge problem, and that’s why we keep showing up and working toward a solution with a “yes” vote on Question 3.

Bringing Climate to the Screen!
Happy Earth Day, all! Apologies for the late delivery — I was traveling today to a climate action in Helena with 350 Montana. We need a fossil free federal reserve! This week felt like a watershed moment in climate culture, because the Good Energy Playbook was finally released to great fanfare! The Good Energy Playbook is a project to guide movie and television writers in making climate conscious content that was founded by storyteller and activist Anna Jane Joyner.
The transition to clean energy is imperative for our future
I am from springtime mud puddles, horseback rides under a summer sun, "many hands making light work" during fall harvests, and the deep, crystalline cold of winter. My home led me to fall in love with this planet. But now, at 24 years old, I am also from night skies smoldering with wildfires, rivers drowning in torrential rains, and lands parched for snowmelt. I am from a present that is changing, a past that is slipping away, and a future that is not sure. I am from the onset of the climate crisis.
Art as adaptation and other news
This week, I’ve been pushed to think of climate adjacent pop culture in a new way. When I started this column, I mainly saw that pop culture could help to bring new people into the climate movement and that the climate movement could help pop culture stay relevant. In effect, I was thinking about what pop culture had to do with greenhouse gas mitigation. However, as climate collapse unfolds, we’re going to need much, much more.
Love in the Time of Climate Change
A couple weeks ago, FINNEAS asked, “How can you sing about love when the kids are all dying?” This week, Ed Sheeran has an answer. You just do it. Now, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Ed Sheeran’s latest record =, “equals,” is about love. Not only has he gotten married and had a kid since his last solo album, but this is the guy who is famous for writing great wedding songs.
Montana, Congress has two weeks to save the world – Daily Montanan
8:38 Commentary $3.5 trillion budget bill could and should combat climate change Imagine what is it like to have two weeks to save the world. Let’s just say, it’s a lot. Now, this may sound like a hypothetical exercise, or the start of a fantastical epic, but it’s not. This is the world we’re living in right now. In the next 10 days, Congress has the chance to pass a $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bill.
YOUTH v GOV - On the Level
YOUTH v GOV is a story of kids, a story of heroes, a story of a mission to save the world. YOUTH v GOV is the story of Juliana v. United States, the constitutional case brought by 21 youth across the nation suing the federal government over the climate crisis. The plaintiffs allege that government took action to further the climate crisis and failed to protect young people’s right to life, liberty, and property.
Opinion: Montana needs Tester to champion Civilian Climate Corps
Opinion: Montana needs Tester to champion Civilian Climate Corps In many ways, U.S. Sen. Tester and I have a lot in common. We both grew up on farms. I spent my childhood on both an educational farm and a family homestead. On the senator’s website, his biography emphasizes how important “hard work, responsibility, and accountability” are to him. As a farm girl myself, I don’t doubt it. Hard work is stacking hay bales under a blazing summer sun.
Tester must stand up for Montana values, science, and the future – Daily Montanan

On the senator’s website his biography emphasizes how important “hard work, responsibility, and accountability” are to him. As a farm girl myself, I don’t doubt it. Take it from a female athlete. We don’t need saving.
Take it from a female athlete. We don’t need saving. Hochschartner LUCY HOCHSCHARTNER The so-called “Save Women’s Sports Act,” or HB 112, claims to save women’s sports by banning transgender athletes. I am a cisgender woman, meaning that I was assigned female at birth and identify as a woman. I am an athlete. In other words, I am exactly who this bill apparently saves. The only problem? I don’t want it. It is hard to be a female athlete.
