Timmins police face staffing shortages and off-road vehicle challenges

Staffing remains a challenge for the Timmins Police Service, but officials said efforts are underway to fill more than a dozen vacancies and strengthen recruitment. During a recent Timmins Police Services Board meeting, deputy chief Darren Dinel provided an update on staffing levels. He said two special constables recently left the organization. One had returned from retirement to serve an additional year, while the other resigned to pursue other opportunities.

Retirement home in Cochrane expands

The need for seniors housing in the Cochrane District has never been clearer. A 28-unit expansion at Cadence Residence in Cochrane has already opened and is fully leased -- with a waiting list that continues to grow. The Cochrane District Services Board said the expansion brings the total number of units at Cadence Residence to 59. Cadence 3 Cadence Residence officially opened its 28-unit expansion and is already all filled up.

Students weld security bars for Royal Canadian Legion in Timmins

Timmins High and Vocational School students are leaving their mark at the Legion office, where window bars featuring a poppy-themed design have been installed at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 88. The project brought together welding, construction and visual arts students to design, build and install the structure. “It was a big project. It was a lot, but we got it done, and it was a bit overwhelming, but we did it in sections and we got it done,” said Lukas Fortin-Coupal, a welding student at TH&VS.
