TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) – We are learning more about Wednesday’s crash on Interstate 59 that killed the former Hewitt-Trussville track and field coach David Dobbs. According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, a car driven by Kiara McCann, 35, hit Dobbs’ SUV and a tractor-trailer. Dobbs’ SUV went off the road into a tree, killing him and sending his wife, Anita, to UAB hospital with critical injuries.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A vendor market storefront is closing more than 42 locations nationwide, including one off Highway 280 in Birmingham. According to the Painted Tree Boutiques website, it closed effective immediately Tuesday. CBS 42 obtained a copy of an email sent to small business owners from the company. The email told shop owners all business operations would stop immediately and there would no longer be sales at any location. No reason for the closure was given.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A local woman is sharing her story about the tragic death of her husband. Midge Miller is hoping her story will bring attention to a new billboard campaign by the Birmingham Bike Club promoting bicycle safety. The Birmingham Bike Club said there were 15 cyclist deaths in the state in 2025. The organization said distracted driving kills a lot of cyclists and bringing awareness to sharing the road is the first step in bringing about change.
