Marion County asks federal court to reverse dismissal of ICE lawsuit

Marion County officials are asking for a federal court to reconsider their previously dismissed lawsuit over what they described as conflicts between state and federal law on immigration enforcement. In their original lawsuit, county officials claimed that gray areas between Oregon’s sanctuary law, state public records laws and federal laws put local governments at legal risk. It asked for a judge to weigh in on how to handle requests for information by federal immigration authorities.

Salem police officer justified in shooting man in response to hostage situation, jury finds

The Salem police officer who shot and injured a man while responding to a hostage call at a homeless camp last week was justified in doing so, a grand jury found. On Thursday, June 18, a Marion County grand jury unanimously concluded that Sgt. Jason Donner was justified in using deadly force against Jose L. Anguiano, 35, on June 11, according to a statement by the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.

Stolen car drifting in Willamette River to be towed Friday

A stolen car has wound up in the Willamette River. There is little to no information available about how the car ended up drifting in sight of people enjoying walks through Minto-Brown Island Park beyond that it is there, it was stolen and it will be removed Friday. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is planning to assist a towing company in removing the car Friday, according to Addison Allemann, a communications coordinator with the sheriff’s office.
