As actress Samantha Hanratty shared her struggles with anxiety, one student realized she was bouncing her leg and fidgeting with her hands. It felt unreal to not only sit beside Hanratty on stage, but also relate to her. Best known for her roles in shows like “Yellowjackets” (2021-) and “Shameless” (2011-2021), Hanratty visited the university on Aug. 27 as part of the Mary Jo and V. Lane Rawlins Fine Arts Series.

With North Texas football’s fall camp in the rearview, it is time to look ahead to the road in front of the Mean Green for 2026. Four years ago, I thought the editor-in-chief of the North Texas Daily receiving an enclosed office within the larger Daily’s office was hilariously pretentious. During Flock’s nationwide controversy over personal privacy concerns and mass surveillance technology, the university has 15 Flock cameras and continues to utilize them. The university installed its Flock cameras on the Denton campus and two on the Frisco campus in January of 2023 in order to assist with police investigations. Flock has come under fire due to ethics and mass surveillance concerns, leading some students to question its place on campus.

North Texas soccer found an equalizer off the foot of junior forward Claire Niedermeier on Thursday night at home, drawing against a previously undefeated Oral Roberts. Oral Roberts (4-0-1) entered the match having allowed just one goal through its first four games, while North Texas (2-1-1) had scored five through its first three matches. The Golden Eagles controlled the opening minutes, forcing the Mean Green to defend deep in their own territory.

During the 2026 spring semester, College of Visual Arts and Design students participated in multiple protests against university administration including moving their Senior Exit Show off campus in March. The issue at the center of the spring protests was the unannounced removal of Brooklyn Street Artist Victor “Marka27” Quiñonez’s “Ni de Aquí, Ni de Allá,” exhibit in February.

From an outdoor masquerade ball shimmering over Mulberry Street to a condemned carnival taking over the storefront of Rose’s Costumes, the streets of Downtown Denton are sure to haunt onlookers this Halloween season. These offerings, along with 18 others, come as a result of the Downtown Denton Foundation’s Halloween Decor Grant, which awarded $7,500 this year to downtown businesses in the official Halloween capital of Texas.
