90.3 FM has been the mic for the mic-less for nearly four decades, kept alive by 300 volunteers and the belief that a homemade sound can be a beautiful thing. Madeline Lines 11 novembre 2025- Read time: 8 min CKUT was the first radio station in Montreal to play hip hop. Today, DJ Tony "Butcher T" Scharschmidt still slices up his Friday "Noon Time Cuts"—mixing reggae, RnB, soca, and hip hop for over 30 years on 90.3 FM.

Shunk: Adventures in Shunkland

Shunk hit the Montreal music scene with a smack, a thud, a shuddering SHUNK! – an accidentally onomatopoeic name that’s now fitting, especially with a single like “Tennis.” Over the past year and a bit, the four-piece was seemingly popping up everywhere, from DIY underpass shows to dive bars and various music festivals.

Okay Kaya casts a hush over Montreal’s Fairmount Theatre, the cozy mid-size venue hiding in plain sight above a grocery store in the city’s Mile End. Normally you could feel the floor give and bounce under your feet, threatening to dump everyone into the fish section below. This crowd however was under a still trance, save for a bit of light swaying, captivated by Kaya Wilkins’ quiet command.
