What was your first job as a journalist?
I was a freelance reporter for numerous outlets while getting my Masters including The Nation, Long Island Press and Long Island Herald.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I did have one when I was a kid and pretended to be a journalist.
How is social media changing news?
It increases coverage, but also spreads misinformation. It is vital for journalists to be diligent in providing accurate information.

Lois Lane
What does it mean to be a journalist?
A journalist is a public servant with the job of educating people about their communities and investigating injustices.

I can't say I've ever seen any.

Why did you become a journalist?
I don't think I ever had a choice. The second I started being a journalist, I knew this was my passion and what I was meant to do.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No, I did not. However, I was Environmental Editor of The Long Island Advocate and News Editor of The Hofstra Chronicle in college.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
"Long Island Mental Health Patients Stuck in the 'Traffic Jam' of Hospital ERs" published by the Long Island Press.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Never give up! Keep fighting for truth and justice and never stop questioning.

Anytime! I'm always happy to hear a good pitch

When I was contacted by a resident in rural Arizona about a story on corruption in local politics.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
I don't think I've ever gotten a truly terrible pitch.

Coffee!!!
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
I'm most likely hiking the beautiful trails in Southern California or curled up with my puppy and a good book.

When working a political beat, sources tend to think I already have an agenda. However, my intention is to be unbiased and present the facts.
