The City Council approved a $147.9 million capital improvement program for the 2026-27 fiscal year last week, investing in Carson's roads, parks and digital infrastructure. The CIP is made up of a mix of local funds and grants. "The CIP helps the City plan, prioritize, fund and schedule projects that improve public infrastructure, enhance community facilities, support public safety and maintain essential city assets," said a staff report created by Public Works Director Arlington Rodgers.

Torrance Councilmember Sharon Kalani is officially the city's mayor-elect after edging out incumbent George Chen by 1,175 votes, according to the Los Angeles County registrar's certified results of the June 2 primary. Kalani beat the current mayor 51.36% to 48.64%. Los Angeles County Registrar Dean Logan certified the final results for the June 2 primary election on Friday. "I am deeply honored by the trust you have placed in me to serve as your next mayor," Kalani said in a Friday statement.

I was a freelance reporter for numerous outlets while getting my Masters including The Nation, Long Island Press and Long Island Herald.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

I did have one when I was a kid and pretended to be a journalist.

How is social media changing news?

It increases coverage, but also spreads misinformation. It is vital for journalists to be diligent in providing accurate information.
