For generations of Minnesotans, Dayton’s and the Minnesota State Fair shared more than a little history. Decades ago, the homegrown department store had a major presence at the fair, which included fashion shows, merchandise, and a retail space inside the Grandstand. This year, the two Minnesota institutions are reuniting. Dayton’s will return to the second floor of the Grandstand with a dedicated shop celebrating the department store’s history and its particular brand of Minnesota nostalgia.

Few television characters are as inseparable from a city as Mary Richards is from Minneapolis. And more than 50 years after The Mary Tyler Moore Show debuted, Moore’s optimistic, independent newsroom producer, with her unforgettable tam toss on Nicollet Mall, remains one of the defining cultural figures of the Twin Cities. She wasn’t just a television star.

While many eco-conscious brands lean heavily into minimalist neutrals and earth tones, Minneapolis fashion designer Danielle Everine has built her namesake label around bold prints, painterly textiles, and color-rich collections that feel more like wearable art than crunchy basics. “The garments are really about print,” says Everine. Her work often begins with a drawing, painting, or sketch that is then digitized and printed onto fabric using modern zero-waste, eco-friendly inks.
