Microcircuit mechanisms for the generation of sharp-wave ripples in the basolateral amygdala: A role for chandelier interneurons

|
By Li Xu, Peter Stratton, Madhusoothanan B. Perumal, Benjamin Latimer
| Cell Reports Verified
Highlights • Local basolateral amygdala (BLA) circuits generate sharp-wave ripples (SWs) ex vivo • SWs occur with simultaneous synaptic burst inputs in BLA neurons • A chandelier interneuron discharge can initiate SW bursts through local circuits. • In silico chandelier-interneuron-driven modular microcircuits reproduce SW bursts Summary Synchronized activity in neural circuits, detected as oscillations in the extracellular field potential, has been associated with learning and memory.
