VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — As many people celebrate the Fourth of July holiday weekend with cookouts, beach trips, and cold drinks, emergency management officials and medical experts are urging people to take extra precautions as dangerous heat settles across the region. Bruce Nedelka, assistant EMS chief for Virginia Beach, said enjoying an alcoholic beverage is fine in moderation, but he encourages people to prioritize hydration by packing more water than beer in their coolers.
