HUNTINGTON — Voices of the Valley, a barbershop-style singing group, is participating in a new program from the Barbershop Harmony Society called “Music Medics” where they sing to patients at children’s hospitals. Jane Barker, 66, of Lavalette is a member of the Voices of the Valley and organizes the Music Medics program. Members had their first visit to Hoops Family Children's Hospital in May and will be back a couple times each month. “That was really a wonderful experience.

SCOTTOWN, Ohio — This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Scottown fireworks fire in which nine people from Ohio and West Virginia were killed and 11 others were injured. The fire occurred on July 3, 1996. Todd Hall, a 26-year-old man from Proctorville, Ohio, who had sustained a brain injury, was charged with starting the fire with a cigarette. The charges were dropped after he was found incompetent to stand trial and committed to a state mental hospital in September 1996.
