Mags Lesiak MPhil, is a psychological criminologist and Cambridge PhD researcher working at the intersection of critical sociology, victimology, and machine learning. Her research investigates how legal, clinical, and algorithmic systems respond to violence through frameworks of risk, care, and control. She has published in Violence Against Women, Teen Vogue, Psychology Today, and the American Bar Association. Her work has informed UK government policy and international media coverage.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Jake Gittes from Chinatown. He starts with a surface narrative of individual wrongdoing — a private crime, a personal betrayal — and end up uncovering a structural system that feeds on those private violations.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

At its best, journalism is a secular form of moral inquiry — a way of saying, I refuse to let this disappear.
