Mapping the oral microbiome in children with oral diseases using next-generation sequencing: a systematic review
Abstract Background The oral microbiome is integral to paediatric oral health and disease. Next-generation DNA sequencing (NGS) technology enables culture-independent profiling of microbial communities, yet findings remain inconsistent due to methodological and population heterogeneity. Objective This review synthesised NGS-based evidence comparing the oral microbiome of children/adolescents with oral diseases and healthy controls. Design The protocol was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42025618407).

Sustainability of Improvement in Oral‐Health‐Related Quality of Life Following Dental Treatment Under General Anaesthetic: The Role of Family Functioning
Why this paper is important to paediatric dentists ○ It shows that the improvement in oral-health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) following treatment under GA for ECC persists to at least 12 months post-treatment. ○ Family functioning does not appear to play an important role in the degree of that improvement. 1 Introduction Early childhood caries (ECC) is a cumulative condition that remains highly prevalent among young children [1].
