Researchers at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) in Montreal have developed a new method for screening for liver fibrosis among HIV patients which they say are more effective compared to the commonly used test. Liver fibrosis which is the build-up of scar tissue in the liver can lead to permanent damage and is one of the leading causes of death among those living with an HIV infection.

NTP confirms tornado touched down in Repentigny during weekend storm

The Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) has confirmed that a tornado touched down Repentigny during last weekend's powerful storm. NTP says that an EF0 tornado producing winds of up to 130 km/h moved through the area just after 2 p.m. Sunday. Drone and satellite image analysis showed that damages to trees and buildings. No injuries were reported. Sunday's tornado in Repentigny marks the third tornado in as many weeks in Quebec.

Montreal fire department probes after truck fire damages mosque in Côte-des-Neiges

Montreal's Fire Department (SIM) is investigating after a truck fire damaged a mosque in Montreal's Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood early Friday morning. According to SIM spokesperson Annie Vaillancourt, a 911 call was received just after 2 a.m. reporting the fire in a truck parked between Baitul Mukarram Mosque and another building located on De Courtrai Avenue. The fire had spread to the exterior of the mosque damaging its walls.
