More than 100 people have been arrested for driving under the influence so far this bank holiday weekend and over 2,700 have been detected for speeding. A garda roads policing operation is taking place throughout this August bank holiday weekend, and will be in effect until Tuesday. A total 121 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. On Sunday, two fatalities occurred, bringing the total of fatalities on Irish roads to date this year to 110.

When tested in Gurranabraher garda station, confiscated e-scooter reached speeds of 87km/h

Cork gardaí have appealed to parents and guardians to consider the risks associated with high-powered e-scooters after one was seized from a 14-year-old this week. When tested at Gurranabraher Garda Station, the e-scooter was found to be capable of reaching speeds of 87km/h under test conditions. "At these speeds, the potential for serious injury or loss of life is significant, particularly where young people are involved," said a Garda spokesperson.
