A demonstration was held at the Department of Equality and Integration in Dublin today, calling for the removal of barriers erected along the Grand Canal. The ‘Take Back Our Spaces’ coalition has described the steel fencing as “hostile” and is demanding its removal, following its installation in May to prevent asylum seekers from setting up tents on the canal’s banks. The fencing, which runs from Grand Canal Street to Portobello, is costing Waterways Ireland €30,000 per week to maintain.

A new advertisement backing the No vote in the same-sex marriage postal survey has been banned from television until late at night due to its explicit content. The ad is the latest in the Coalition for Marriage’s campaign to provoke controversy in the lead-up to the postal survey result. Shared on the lobby group’s Facebook page on Monday, the 30-second ad garnered an MA classification from commercial television body Free TV, meaning it cannot be aired before 8.30pm.

Billionaire Tom Steyer has launched an advertising campaign which calls for the impeachment of President Trump. In an ad posted on his YouTube channel, the Democratic activist called for the American people to sign a petition for impeachment and to encourage their member of Congress to take a public stance. The 60-year-old criticised the US congress and the Trump administration for “doing nothing” about a president who he claims is “mentally unstable and armed with nuclear weapons”.
