This week, staff writer Danyelle Khmara digs into the life of Branden Roth, a 24-year-old man who was killed in Pima County Jail last year. She tells you who Branden was: A kid who slipped up a few too many times and couldn't get it together. It's a tragic tale of how Roth ended up in a cell with a violent and mentally ill man on a morning when a guard called in sick and rounds were done a little slower. Elsewhere in the book: Our favorite annual events just keep rolling around.

Last week, staff reporter Danyelle Khmara covered the immediate aftermath of the Trump administration's decision to pull the plug on the DACA program for undocumented youth. But as the reaction grew, we decided there was a lot more to the story than we were able to tell, so we've expanded on it in this week's cover story. Danyelle introduces you to some of the DREAMers who are seeing their lives shattered and takes a look at what some of politicians who will decide their fate are saying.

A black-and-white New York City skyline that's receded from the vantage of a helicopter. Once the city resembled something one could hold in a fist, the photograph is snapped. It’s 1966. Yet the photo vibrates for contemporary eyes as contemporary thru its darkness.

Nine Questions With Henry Barajas | The Range: The Tucson Weekly's Daily Dispatch
So, I have decided to ask myself these questions so I can know what it’s like to be put on the spot and define my musical tastes for all of you to admire and or judge. Full disclosure: I used to play the trumpet when I was a lad, so I’m qualified and of sound mind to know what’s good from bad. Aside from writing for the Weekly, I deejay from 2 to 5:30 a.m. every Wednesday morning at 91.3 KXCI F.M.My friend wanted me to go see Chamillionaire and local rap group Dog For Life at the Rialto.
Tour Diaries! Final day of the Marianne Dissard Euro Tour: No Dirt, Jacques Brel and Wooden Sailboats! | The Range: The Tucson Weekly's Daily Dispatch
I live in dread of not performing ever again. It's not an irrational fear. Tonight's show at the Düsseldorf Jazz Festival marks the end of our European spring tour, the "Woman, Who's A Woman" + special "man" guest tour. I did it all. Booking, promotion, hiring, firing, buying flights, driving and singing. Time to scream. We play a loud, raging set with hefty doses of sweetness and spunk alike to a very attentive audience.
Song of the Day: Billy Sedlmayr on the Dwight Twilley Band's 'Sincerely' | The Range: The Tucson Weekly's Daily Dispatch
Power pop was a thing that just never panned out for its artists or its fans. It rolled in, drafting behind car No. 2, new wave. And was punk rock's well-adjusted kid brother. A cross pollination of Brit Invasion, Brian Wilson and an army of tambourines.Dwight Twilley was in the first class of retro-rock, a student of the game.

In the late ‘60s and early ‘70s, Germany was ground zero for the avant-garde. Electronic exploration by students and artists, working in mediums music and visual arts. A sort of Eurofor oddballs, if you will, following the leading figures of a burgeoning scene.

Yep. That hotel sucked. But there was a bathtub. Hot water. Electricity. Wifi. It's 1 a.m. and I'm taking a bath, at last a bath. The phone rings. Connor forgot an adapter at the venue. I scream. Must drive back there now. Gas. Power. Frankfurt. Our hotel a block from the European Central Bank building. Power.? And machines adding lanes on kilometers after kilometers of highways. Reconstruction. Autobahns. Snail-pacing through Germany, Europa, trucks a wall of metal and money.
Tour Diaries! Days Seven, Eight and Nine of the Marianne Dissard Euro Tour | The Range: The Tucson Weekly's Daily Dispatch
At last, at last! We played a show tonight, the four of us finally reunited, Connor back from Cologne, Annie from rollerblading, me from my cave and Brittany from the ER. Earlier today, I went swimming in a small neighborhood lake with my Berlin friend Anne. We put down our towels on the grass. I stared for a long time at the baby ducks huddled under a tree by the water. The water was cold. Naked men and women walked and swam around. I got a bit of a sunburn. But back to the show.

What is there to say aboutthat has not already been said?critic A. O. Scott called the flick “the perfect opposite of entertainment.” Ouch. The movie is, technically, awful. The plot is—most definitely—garbage.

bought some roller blades this morning and sends me a video of her feet slicing through the streets of Prenzlauer Berg and into a church. Don't you go breaking an arm now, guitar player! We're not done playing. Me? I'm playing it very safe on our second day off. I'm still reclusing in the posh west end of town. I've got to make use of that time to put the finishing touches to my first book, a memoir of addiction and recovery that I started writing three years ago.

Tour Diaries! The Second Entry (Day Four) of the Marianne Dissard Euro Tour | The Range: The Tucson Weekly's Daily Dispatch
I drive Connor to the McDonald's parking lot on the outskirt of Chemnitz. On our first day off, he's catching a car share ride - in a white convertible - to Cologne, a seven hours drive to reunite with his/our old Tucson buddy - and my first Europe tour drummer back in 2008 -who now lives in Germany. It's men's day, also known as father's day in Germany. Me and the girls checked out from the Chemnitz hotel at noon.

A blur already and we haven't yet started. This morning, as I made breakfast —as close to huevos rancheros as I can manage here, baguette for corn tortillas, I thought of a good first story for the tour blog I'd write that evening. As I doubled-down on black coffee, checking live updates for flight arrivals at Charles de Gaulle from my laptop, I swear I had the whole thing figured out.Twelve hours later, it's all lost. I'm drained. Blame it on a full afternoon of rehearsals.
