Over the last few years, there have been radical changes in the treatments for corneal endothelial disease that have impacted the care optometrists provide to their patients. The most common cause of endothelial dysfunction is Fuchs’ dystrophy, which initially causes deposits on the posterior surface of the cornea called guttae (Latin for drops). Like rain drops on a windshield, they decrease vision, cause glare and even distort or diminish color vision.
