The City of Atlanta says archeologists have potentially found a burial site of forced convict laborers at the Chattahoochee Brick Company property. Archeology firm New South Associates reported to the city that ground-penetrating radar scans show evidence of soil disruption consistent with shallow graves, according to a statement the City of Atlanta sent to WABE. This discovery comes as the city and several of its partners work on making a park and memorial to the forced convict laborers.

Conservationists regroup after Kemp vetoes bill

Supporters of a Georgia program that puts money toward conservation and parks say they are disappointed but already regrouping after Gov. Brian Kemp vetoed a bill earlier this year that would have extended the program’s life and increased its funding. The Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Act, or GOSA, takes some of the sales tax from outdoor recreation goods and dedicates the money to a grant program that funds land acquisition and park construction across the state.

DeKalb, EPA to rewrite multi-decade sewage lawsuit agreement

DeKalb County and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency told U.S. District Judge Steven Grimberg on Thursday that it’s replacing a 15-year-old agreement with the federal government over the county’s sewage spills. The agreement — called a consent decree — outlines decades of upgrades to the county’s sewage infrastructure.
