On capital gains taxes, Biden should look back at history
To say that history is repeating itself is an understatement when it comes to tax policy. In his budget to Congress, President Biden proposed the capital gains tax from 20 percent to 39.6 percent “to ensure that the wealthy pay their fair share.” It’s eerily reminiscent of another Democratic president 45 years ago.

Workers Will Pay for Biden’s Corporate Tax Hike
PRO ACT The PRO Act is a central component of the left's crusade against American workers and small businesses: The PRO Act Bans Right to Work Laws Nationwide Right to Work laws prohibit employers from forcing their employees to join a union or pay union dues as a condition of employment. Opinion | On Capital Gains, Joe Biden Is No Jack Kennedy
There is nothing “moderate” about Joe Biden’s proposals to tax high-income investors. First, the top individual tax rate for income above $400,000 would be raised to 39.6% from 37%. Then long-term capital gains and qualified dividends would be taxed at the ordinary income-tax rate of 39.6% on incomes above $1 million plus an investment-income surtax of 3.8%, bringing the total to 43.4% Finally, the step-up in basis for capital-gains taxation at death would be eliminated.
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is Working for the Middle Class
The Trump administration and state and local governments wisely suspended regulations to help fight the coronavirus. Many of these rules and regulations were not necessary in the first place, given their tendency to reduce innovation and access to care, not to mention their restriction on American liberty. Below is a list of suspended rules and regulations, starting with federal waivers, followed by state and local waivers.
Biden Will Impose Highest Capital Gains Tax Rate Since Jimmy Carter in 1977
Today, a large coalition of conservative and free-market organizations led by Americans for Tax Reform released a letter to Congress stating their unified opposition to any form of a carbon tax: Dear Members of Congress, We oppose any carbon tax. A carbon tax raises the cost of heating your home in the winter and cooling your home in the summer. It raises the cost of filling your car. A carbon tax increases the cost of everything Americans buy and lowers Americans’ effective take home pay.
The Evergreen State and the soul of the Democratic Party
An increasingly crowded field of presidential candidates are generating headlines as they battle to outflank each other toward a new left to capture the hearts and minds of Democratic voters.

Commentary: How Tough Russia Sanctions Could Backfire on the U.S.
With the midterms emerging in November, America’s political system could find itself susceptible to cyberattacks by Russia and other foreign governments. Since evidence of Russian interference became clear, both the Trump administration and Congress have introduced plans to punish Russia for its actions and prevent aggression in the future. One of these proposals, the Defending American Security From Kremlin Aggression Act (DASKAA), sponsored by Sen.
Will Republicans Raise Capital Gains Taxes?
What ever happened to cutting the capital gains tax? When Barack Obama took office, the top rate on most capital gains was 15%. By the time he left, two tax hikes had raised it to 23.8%. That’s where the congressional Republican tax-reform plans leave it. But under the Republican plan, many individual investors would end up paying higher taxes on capital gains. That’s because the plans propose abolishing the deduction for state and local taxes, or SALT.

Look to Latinos to drive US economic growth
The one thing President Trump, Democrats, the chattering class and, most importantly, the American public can agree upon is the need for higher U.S. economic growth. An analysis from June 28, Latino GDP Report, highlights the Latino contribution to the U.S. economy. It provides helpful insight to our country’s challenge of creating greater economic growth. President Trump promises annual GDP growth of 3 percent, the average rate after World War II. Until recently, we had averaged 2.3 percent.
Need Revenue? Try Slashing the Capital Gains Tax Rate
In the debate over tax reform, the biggest challenge is always how to raise enough revenue to offset proposed tax cuts. Yet there is a relatively simple and painless way to maintain the federal coffers: Restore long-term capital-gains tax rates to the levels in place before President Obama took office. A reduction in this tax could generate significant additional revenue. We began working on this issue in 1977 and have observed the long-term consequences of changes in the capital-gains tax.
Too early to get combative in tax reform debate
Perhaps it should come as no surprise that after 30 years of growing frustration with a broken tax code, the corporate world has launched a full-court press of messaging and advocacy before tax reform is even out of the starting gate. A few decades laboring under the heavy burdens of the U.S. tax code is enough to make anyone eager, after all.

Overhaul the Tax System Like It’s 1913, Not 1986
Two weeks from Tax Day, taxpayer frustration is high. As lawmakers seek a path to tax reform, the lessons of the Revenue Act of 1913 and the Tax Reform Act of 1986 might be helpful to recall. In 1913, the major source of revenue for the government was a complex, lobbyist-driven set of tariffs, which had become politically unpopular and economically unsound.
