Mark Devlin (47) is an entrepreneur from Scotland who went to Japan in his early twenties. In 1994 with his partner, Mary, he started handing out a four-page classified ads sheet on Tokyo street corners, which became Metropolis, Japan’s No 1 English magazine.
They also started Japan Today , the No 1 English news site about Japan in the world . At the time of its sale in 2007, their business had annual revenues of over $4million, profit of 20%, and 35 staff from over 10 different countries.
In 2012 they started WeCheck, an collaborative fact-checking site that grew into Newslines, a crowdsourced news timeline site. Newslines is the only direct competitor to Wikipedia, and aims to take it's No 1 position on Google search results for every biography and news event.
