Artist Photon Tide Turns Emotional Turbulence Into Psychedelic Visual Poetry
Photon Tide feels like someone making art out of inner weather. The work is psychedelic, emotional, and a little cosmic, like it’s pulling images straight out of a dream and giving them shape. What hits first is the mood. There’s loneliness, motion, and a kind of beautiful unease running through the pieces, but they never feel flat or decorative. They feel personal, like the artist is translating private thoughts into color, texture, and atmosphere. I also like that the work doesn’t stay in one lane.

On the Unlikely Origin of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
I’ve been asked so many questions about writing Curious Incident over the intervening years that it’s now hard to excavate memories of the experience itself from memories of the answers I’ve given to those questions. What I do remember is this—having jumped ship from a literary agent who told me to concentrate on writing for children, I submitted the latest and least dreadful of my finished adult novels to Clare Alexander at Aitken Alexander.
On the Unlikely Origin of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
Now The best-selling author Marie Lu recommends thrilling reads that ground enchanting adventures in recognizable settings. There’s a door in the alley that people only seem to enter but never leave. There’s an old woman stirring her coffee with a spoon that you could have sworn was a fork a second ago. …
Leaving Home: A Memoir in Full Colour
In the course of my work as a reviewer, I’ve covered more than 150 memoirs. Without question, none of them resemble LEAVING HOME. Comprising 87 loosely connected segments, the book is an episodic exploration of Mark Haddon’s personal and professional life, filtered through his fertile and idiosyncratic mind. What makes it most distinctive is a format that intersperses photographs and drawings with his revelatory prose.
‘To say I was the favourite would imply I was liked’: Mark Haddon on a loveless childhood
Mark Haddon and his sister, Fiona, in 1968.Composite: photography: courtesy of Mark Haddon (Composite: photography: courtesy of Mark Haddon) When I see washed-out photographs of English life in the 60s and 70s – cardiganed grandmothers eating roadside picnics beside Morris Minors, pale men sunbathing in shoes and socks on stripy deckchairs, Raleigh Choppers and caged budgerigars and faux leather pouffes – I feel a wave of what can’t properly be called nostalgia, because the last thing I’d...

Review: "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" at Civic Theatre
A successful staging of this play hinges on a believable Christopher. Without that cornerstone, the play loses its integrity and interest. It’s a demanding role that requires unconventional characterization. Ozzy Heath, a senior at Lebanon High School, is perfection as Christopher. If you read my reviews regularly, you might have noticed that I most often avoid writing about child actors.
