What was your first job as a journalist?

For pay, working at KGGF Radio during high school. Did newscasts among other things. Minimum wage, which was fine.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Of course! Manual and electric.

How is social media changing news?

A friend who works at Twitter called it a "one-man wire service." The Internet is a global distribution platform for anyone.

Clark Kent

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It means providing trustworthy information which is vital in a free society.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

Since I have a short attention span, I can't...

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Word, WordPress, TwistedWave just to name a few.

What's your favorite social network?

For work, Twitter, then LinkedIn, then Google+.

Who do you wish followed you?

The President of the United States.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Yes, The Tornado Times, part of The Coffeyville Journal. Wrote a number of news stories and features. Worked at the local radio station too.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

It is probably a 10-part immigration series in the mid-80s. We really did a broad look at the problem, including the human angle.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Learn as much as you can about many things. Build your personal brand and work across a variety of platforms.
