Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

Pitching and writing news pertaining to PlayStation 3 announcements for the now-defunct site, Examiner.com.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes! I often contemplate getting one for the office just as a novelty.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Being a journalist means being the frontline, trusted source of information for a chosen beat.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I am big on Google Docs, Grammarly, Upwork, Slack, and Asana.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter has grown on me the most. I appreciate the quick and informative format.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I did not. However, if I had, I would have likely covered news regarding the thespian club and a charitable club formed by a teacher.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Be honest and as forthcoming as possible. Go digging for information others may be missing.

What's your favorite drink?

Diet coke. Or a Long Island iced tea, depending on the mood.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

With my wife either exploring our city, hiking, playing with our cats, or lounging in the pool.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That it is generally geared toward children and, therefore, problematic to society.
