The psychological architecture of employee disengagement: a structural model of the antecedents and behavioral outcomes of quiet quitting
Abstract Background: Quiet quitting, defined as disengagement through the restriction of effort to formal job requirements, is a growing organizational concern. Prior research has examined its predictors in isolation. This study aimed to test an integrated structural model combining personality, affect, and work attitudes to explain quiet quitting and its behavioral outcomes.
Computer Science > Artificial Intelligence
Simulation-based algorithms are especially suited for high-uncertainty environments such as adversarial board games with significant elements of randomness and hidden information. In particular, several Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS) variants are commonly used in such domains. In this paper, we propose a series of enhancements for Ensemble Determinization MCTS, introducing two axes for dynamic resource allocation.

Adolescence by Netflix
I just finished watching Adolescence, a Netflix series that confronts us with the fragility and dangers of this stage in life. The story revolves around Jamie, a 13-year-old boy who commits a heinous crime: taking the life of a classmate his own age. SPOILERS!!! The series begins with a shocking scene: the police burst into Jamie’s house to arrest him. The tension is palpable as the officers search every corner of the house, eventually reaching the room of the only suspect.

PHIStruct: Improving phage-host interaction prediction at low sequence similarity settings using structure-aware protein embeddings
We present PHIStruct, a multilayer perceptron that takes in structure-aware embeddings of receptor-binding proteins, generated via the structure-aware protein language model SaProt, and then predicts the host from among the ESKAPEE genera. Compared against recent tools, PHIStruct exhibits the best balance of precision and recall, with the highest and most stable F1 score across a wide range of confidence thresholds and sequence similarity settings.
Uncovering the physiology and distribution of thallium in Tl-hyperaccumulating and Tl-sensitive populations of Biscutella laevigata L
Thallium (Tl) is extremely toxic to all lifeforms and an emerging pollutant. Plants in the Brassicaceae family, including edible crops, have an enhanced capacity for Tl accumulation, even from soils with low thallium concentration. The most extreme Tl hyperaccumulator is Biscutella laevigata, capable of attaining >32,000 μg Tl g-1 DW in its leaves.

Membrane proteome of the thermoalkaliphile Caldalkalibacillus thermarum TA2.A1
Introduction The biological membrane is where the cell meets its environment, forming the boundary between the cytoplasm and the outside world and also at the point where the cell senses environmental changes. They are composed of proteins, lipids, lipid-like molecules, and sugars. The way in which the cell senses these changes is through membrane-embedded and membrane-associated proteins (Boes et al., 2021).

Diversity via datafication? Digital patient records and citizenship for sexuality and gender diverse people - BioSocieties
Abstract In 2018, the Australian Government adopted an ‘opt-out’ strategy to increase participation in My Health Record (MHR), the national digital patient record system. Opt out was rationalised through discourse on the universal right to health. Media controversy ensued due to privacy fears, security and commercial exploitation of patient information.
Waves divide the Fermi sea - Nature Physics
The discovery of charge density waves in a heavily doped cuprate strengthens proposals that these symmetry-breaking modulations play a role in the anomalous electronic properties of high-temperature superconductors. Although the fundamental Coulomb interactions between electrons in materials are well-known and relatively simple, experiments frequently reveal unexpected emergent phenomena that arise when many electrons interact strongly.
Whole-cell modeling in yeast predicts compartment-specific proteome constraints that drive metabolic strategies - Nature Communications
Abstract When conditions change, unicellular organisms rewire their metabolism to sustain cell maintenance and cellular growth. Such rewiring may be understood as resource re-allocation under cellular constraints. Eukaryal cells contain metabolically active organelles such as mitochondria, competing for cytosolic space and resources, and the nature of the relevant cellular constraints remain to be determined for such cells.
