Tories fend off Reform to clinch Stranraer by-election

The Scottish Conservatives have won a by-election in Stranraer, with Reform UK narrowly failing to secure its first election win north of the border. Julie Currie became the Tory party’s newest councillor after clinching the Stranraer and the Rhins by-election with 1,565 votes, just 42 ahead of Reform candidate John Roberts. Russell Findlay, the Scottish Conservative leader, hailed Ms Currie as a “fantastic representative and a strong voice” for Stranraer and the Rhins.

Acronym so memorable only 1pc of Scots remember it

ONLY one per cent of Scots could recall the meaning of an acronym that was a key part of Nicola Sturgeon's flagship campaign to protect people during the Covid pandemic. The former first minister chose not to adopt the UK Government's "Hands Face Space" slogan to keep people safe and hygienic, opting instead for a "memorable" acronym - FACTS - with each letter representing one of the important measures Scots should follow to keep themselves and others safe.
