By MARK NELKE Sports editor Jon Adams said he enjoyed the process of putting together a prep school basketball program, and guiding it through its first season. But life happens sometimes. Adams, head coach at MØDE Prep in Liberty Lake, has resigned after one season. “My attention is just getting pulled elsewhere now,” said Adams, a 1991 Coeur d’Alene High grad who coached his alma mater for five seasons before taking over at MODE Prep.

A Post Falls High School student-athlete who died over the weekend following a car crash is being remembered as a consummate teammate, competitor and friend. Sophomore Lexie Haines-Picchione, 16, was northbound in a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta on Highway 41 around 2:30 p.m. Friday when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a traffic light support pole at Wyoming Avenue.

By MARK NELKE Sports editor Coeur d’Alene High’s new head boys basketball coach has been on the Viking sideline before. Arnold Brown was an assistant for two seasons (2023-24 and 2024-25), even serving as interim head coach for the final five games of the 2025 season. “I enjoyed my time here; everybody was friendly,” Brown said. “An easy choice for me.” Brown, 62, succeeds Kent Leiss, who resigned after an 8-14 season in the first year of his second stint as Viking coach.
