Whitecap Resources’ $15-billion acquisition of Veren was not only the largest Canadian deal of 2025, but also the most impactful for reserves growth, according to the latest analysis by Geologic, using Evaluate Energy data. No other acquisition, in a year that also included major transactions by ARC Resources, Cenovus Energy and Ovintiv, generated a larger increase in the acquirer’s Canadian reserve base. Analysis Oil Price Spike Benefits Unhedged Producers

Several North American oil and gas producers are poised to benefit from the recent oil price spike, thanks to their hedging strategies. Geologic data shows that, as of year-end 2025, Permian-focused Diamondback Energy was the largest oil producer in a group of 14 pure E&P companies in the U.S. and Canada that either had: No price-capping derivatives* in place for Q1 and Q2 2026; or, Hedging that represented up to only 10% of latest production.
