Introduction Mosquito-borne pathogens that cause diseases such as dengue, malaria, Zika, and yellow fever have earned mosquitoes the title of “the world’s deadliest animal” to humans because of the number of people who die each year from mosquito-borne infections (Kamerow, 2014). These diseases disproportionately impact Asia, Africa, and South America, and incidence is linked with poverty (Gallup and Sachs, 2001; Bhatt et al., 2013).
