Mary Lou Montgomery

A bust of the legendary author and humorist, Samuel L. Clemens, possesses a position of honor upon the barge which serves as the entrance to the aptly named Mark Twain Riverboat -  moored along Hannibal’s riverfront. The 20-inch bust itself - a relic long ago abandoned in a vacated building in the 200 block of Broadway - was saved from oblivion by Sandy Terry - co-owner with her husband, Steve, of the aforementioned riverboat, They are former owners of the building on Broadway. Larry Janes of Hannibal, born in 1940, called the living quarters above the Union Bar on Hannibal’s Southside home for much of his youth. It was in this environment that he gained a respectful perspective on the role played by blue collar workers during the years following World War II. The second of three sons born to Frank and Martha Buskirk Janes, Larry moved with his family to the prime business intersection of Union and what is now known as Missouri 79, when he was still a preschooler.

HANNIBAL—Travis Ferreira, a licensed electrician, and his wife, Jona Ferreira, are parents to a dozen children, ranging in age from 31 to 12. They have a blended family, one might say, with children biologically linked to either Travis or Jona, or both, and others connected via the heart.
