Book Review: Verbal Poker Tells
In the world of poker book writing and publishing, a new author with something unique and valuable to say doesn’t come along often. In fact, this is usually a rare event. Now this statement is not meant to take away from the many good poker/gambling books that are available today, but I write it to show the value of the book, Verbal Poker Tells by Zachary Elwood, which is reviewed below.
Adjusting to Tougher WSOP Tournaments
I started playing poker tournaments almost ten years ago against passive small stakes players who were fairly easy to beat. If I didn’t see half of the players coming in for an open limp in a third of the hands, I was at a tougher than average table for the player pool. As I began to have success and move up in stakes, I saw fewer and fewer of these passive players. But even at the highest stakes offered on my favorite unregulated site, the players were mostly still making big mistakes.
Two More Book Reviews
by Mason MalmuthTwo Plus Two Magazine, Vol. 16, No. 11 Play Optimal Poker 2: Range Construction (10) by Andrew Brokos Generally, the second volume in a series is not as good as the first volume. But there are exceptions, and this is one of those. In addition, the first book was terrific. The basis of this book is to understand what your range should be (when playing no-limit hold ’em) and that of your opponent, and how this should affect your playing decisions.
The Small Blind is not Small Potatoes
No one, and I mean no one, hates the small blind more than my friend and world renowned poker author Tommy Angelo. He’s written tons on the subject. My favorite article of his on it is called How To Play The Small Blind. I recommend you read it, but if you haven’t, here are the Cliff’s Notes: “Don’t.” Just kidding. That’s not really a summary of his article. It’s the article in its entirety. This time, I’m not kidding.

Poker for many of us has never been the same since Black Friday occurred. In addition, the inability for most U.S. players not to play on the Internet has hurt poker all over the country and perhaps the world.

Limping Along - by Andrew Brokos
When you started playing no-limit, especially if you started playing live games, you probably did a lot of limping because that’s what everyone else was doing. Then when you started taking the game more seriously, someone probably told you that limping is bad, that it’s loose and passive, something fish do, and not part of a winning strategy.

Two Plus Two Magazine, Vol. 13, No. 3 “Drinking is overly relied on for socializing,” Faraz Jaka proclaimed. I read this statement on Twitter a year ago.
