New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) have made a series of controversial decisions in recent weeks. Some claim these decisions undermine and backtrack on the state’s environmental laws mandated by the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). On Nov. 7, the allowing the construction of the Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) pipeline, which will carry fracked natural gas through Pennsylvania and New Jersey to downstate New York.

Data Center Developer Secures Long-Term Lease of Cayuga Power Plant

The owners of the Cayuga Power Plant in Lansing have entered a long-term deal to lease the former coal-fired power plant to a company that develops data centers. TeraWulf Inc. announced an 80-year lease of a 183-acre portion of the site in an Aug. 14 press release. “This transaction marks a major step forward in the company’s expansion of high-performance computing (HPC) and AI data center hosting,” the press release stated.

City Finishes 2021 Audit Four Years Late

The City of Ithaca has just completed its financial audit for 2021. The long-awaited audit is four years late and highlights inefficiencies that exist within the city’s current system of tracking finances. Tracking of financial information has been a troublesome issue for the city in recent years. The city’s backlog of incomplete audits resulted in the temporary suspension of its bond rating in April 2024.
