It looks like one of my longest-standing prayers for Canadian politics is finally about to be answered. In a press conference on Friday outside what remains of 24 Sussex Drive, Mark Carney announced that he was finally going forward with a plan to deal with the decaying hulk of what is nominally the official residence of the Prime Minister of Canada. The building has been decaying for years and was effectively abandoned after Stephen Harper left office.

The federal government has announced three projects slated to be approved by the federal cabinet by the fall, pending the completion of consultation processes under the Major Projects Office. This is a fascinating test for the government, and for the office itself. They have already been referred to the MPO for consideration.
